Who is God?

God deserves and demands the choicest and best. In Leviticus 2-3, this includes frankincense, fine flour, and fat portions (Lev.2.1, 3.16). God the Son is the Chief Shepherd of his people (John 21.15b, 16b, 17b; cf. 1Pet.5.4)

Who is man?

Man comes to the LORD and relates to him through God's direction and through blood sacrifice (Lev.2-3). It is for men to follow Christ with singleness of heart, but we are prone to comparing our lot with God's providence in the lives of other men. How easily we think, "Lord, what about this man?" (John 21.18-22).

Where is the Gospel?

Peace with God is found through the blood of the sacrifice (Lev.3.1-2; cf.Col.1.19-20). The Israelite worshiper would feast on the peace offering on the same day that it was sacrificed as "a pleasing aroma to the LORD" (Lev.3.1-5; cf.7.15-16). This prefigures our feasting on Christ, even as he was a pleasing sacrifice to God the Father (John 6.53-58 & Heb.9.11-14). The risen Lord catalyzes an abundant harvest, and he brings forgiveness and restoration (John 21.6, 15-17).
