Who is God?

God is holy and sees to it that his holiness is made known (Num.20.13). God judges the earth (Ps.58.11). "O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love" (Ps.59.17).

Who is man?

Man is prone to angry outbursts, and in these he does not represent God (Num.20.11-12; cf. James 1.20). Wicked men start being wicked early, their course is unalterable, and they only stop when God stops them (Ps.58.3-9). The wicked howl, prowl, and growl; the righteous sing aloud their praises to God (Ps.59.14-17).

Where is the Gospel?

The Israelites thirsted, and God provided (Num.20.2-13; cf. 1Cor.10.4). Jesus brings decisive, final judgment to the earth (Ps.58.10-11; cf. Rev.14.17-15.4; 19.13). Through his death he brought life - this is the Gospel. This is his victory and ours (Ps.59.10; cf. 1Cor.15.20-28; Col.2.15; Rev.12.10-11).
