Who is God?
God gives his commandments and rules to his people through his human prophets (i.e. Moses; Num.36.13; cf. 2Pet.1.21). God leads his people like a shepherd leads his sheep (Ps.80.1; cf. John 10.27-30).
Who is man?
Although it may look problematic at times, man is able to obey God's commands (Num.36). We are saved when God's face shines on us, but the wicked perish at the rebuke of his face (Ps.80.16, 19).
Where is the Gospel?
God fulfills his redemptive purposes through the warp and woof of human lives (Num.36; cf. Gen.17.8). We see this in Numbers 36: each tribe retains its inheritance. Jesus restores us to God, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls (Ps.80.3, 7, 19; 1Pet.2.24-25).
